Black Diamond Half Ironman. September 26, 2009

Tell us about your race! Was the course flat and fast or were there horrific hills and technical turns? How about the water temp? What did you eat? How big was the field?

Well, well. Before I get to the report let me also say that I miss all of you Jet City Tri kids. It seems to be dwindling numbers that I see at the triathlons and I do know that some of you are doing great things and accomplishing bigger Tri goals but It sure would be nice to see you all again at the races.

So....

A challenge....

How many of you can do the Black Diamond Half next year? 2010? I will be there. I have heard of possibly 3 others this morning making plans to get a bunch of us out there next year. There were 11 from the group of friends in 2007. Impressive and fun. Even though I was last place amongst the group, I was honored to get my butt kicked by so many fun people. Next year? Thinking of how much fun we had and how much fun I had at this one last weekend made me think I should come back here and see if anyone is game for the race next year... I hope so...

So...

The report. Anytime you can finish with your friend, side by side, shoulder to shoulder, grinding out the last little 13.1 miles together, sharing the aches, stories, pains and accomplishments of the day, DO IT! Finish times come and go but to finish with a friend is a lifelong memory. I am fortunate to have done it with Ron. ( I think he secretly stabbed his tire since he was waaaay ahead and I think he missed me...)

I had the honor to run with Ron Matthews and it was most excellent! Of all of the Half Ironman races I have done, this one takes the cake because of that. and... and... Ron helped me to get a PR! Thank you Ron again!

The day was beautiful... Yet somewhat fall like... light fog rising from the lake due to the air being colder than the lake.... Thank Goodness! (The next day was 11 degrees colder!) (Amy ran the Olympic and told us about it.)(I liked comparing notes on the run and Amy calling the rocky area “The Quarry”! Love that! Definitely like running through a quarry!)

Well, it being late now, I must limit this report.

Next year, come and have an apple with me… Just like I did this year… After one of the volunteers was shaking apples out of a tree and I was in need of some other/Triathlon/world nutrition… such as an apple… and went over to the ground and ate one….

Hey Ron… I just realized why I was so sick Sunday…. Oops! There are probably a couple of sick volunteers also...
Cheers,
